ASSISTANT coach Dean Laidley and fitness boss David Buttifant will leave Carlton as the club embarks on a restructure of its coaching and high-performance departments in the post-Mick Malthouse era.

Carlton announced the departures of Laidley and Buttifant on Monday, saying Buttifant's position as high-performance manager would not be replaced.

Laidley and Buttifant joined Carlton ahead of the 2014 season, having both worked with Malthouse during his time as Collingwood coach.

Malthouse was sacked after the Blues' round eight loss to Geelong this year, with his recently appointed replacement Brendon Bolton now expected to surround himself with a new-look coaching and fitness team.

"Dean and David have both been integral parts of our football club for the past two seasons. I would like to thank them both for their contributions and wish them the very best for the future," Carlton football boss Andrew McKay said.

Laidley, who was North Melbourne's senior coach from 2003-2009, said it was time to find his "next challenge".

"I have enjoyed the last two seasons at Carlton, especially working closely with the playing group," Laidley said.

"The club now has the foundations and planning in place and I know they will continue to build towards success in the coming years."
